Rutten rues missed chances

PSV coach Fred Rutten lamented the basic errors which cost his side in Sunday’s 2-0 away defeat to Feyenoord.

The Eindhoven side created plenty of chances at De Kuip, but failed to beat the home team’s goalkeeper Erwin Mulder, while Feyenoord took advantage of two errors from the guests to bag the full three points.

“So it is disappointing to leave De Kuip empty-handed. Our attacking style usually pays off dividends for us, but today we lacked the finishing touch. We are left to rue some annoying defensive mistakes,” Rutten told the club’s official website.

“Toivonen had a lateral pass intercepted on the stroke of half-time, and seconds later we were a goal down, which felt like a blow.”

“Out of nothing Feyenoord doubled their lead five minutes after the interval and again we conceded a soft goal due to a personal error. You can hardly blame youngster Jetro Willem for that, but it was a key moment.”

“There are lessons to be learned, and he has to learn them. Feyenoord had chances to make it three and we created opportunities to at least pull one back. All in all, Feyenoord were deserved 2-0 winners.”

PSV remain second on the table following Sunday’s result with 31 points from 15 games.
