PSV Eindhoven coach Fred Rutten has expressed his delight after his side closed to within two points of Eredivisie leaders AZ Alkmaar.
PSV defeated Utrecht 1-0 on Saturday thanks to an Ola Toivonen strike, while title rivals Ajax and AZ played out a 2-2 draw at the Amsterdam ArenA.
“PSV have had a great weekend,” Rutten said. “We’ve climbed into second place following our 1-0 victory, while our competitors, AZ and Ajax, dropped two points in a 2-2 draw.”
“We could have scored more goals tonight, though, but we did not, partly because of a lack of accuracy in the final pass or shot. Utrecht’s defensive line was well-organised.”
“Once we’d taken a 1-0 lead, we got more space. We really had a good night of football.”
PSV are second in the Eredivisie table with 20 points from nine matches.
