Dutch footballer Ryan Donk joined West Bromwich Albion on loan from AZ Alkmaar only six months ago, and is now sent back to the Netherlands as the Baggies are no longer interested in his services.
Donk’s representative Winnie Haatrecht commented on WBA’s decision in an interview with newspaper AD: “West Bromwich have to find more financial space, so the guys that don’t play often should look for another club.”
Whether the 22-year-old defender returns to Alkmaar remains unclear, but he is likely to spend the rest of the season in his home country.
“Ryan won’t just play anywhere. You won’t see him move to Russia. But he’s 22 years old and if a club needs a central defender, there’ll be possibilities,” Haatrecht added.
Donk formed part of the Dutch team that won the European Under-21 Championships in 2007, delivering the assist that allowed Maceo Rigters to net a last-gasp equalizer versus England in the semi finals.
