Sagna blow for Gunners

Arsenal will be without right-back Bacary Sagna for up to three months, after the club confirmed he has a fractured right fibula.

Sagna sustained the injury when competing for the ball against Tottenham’s Benoit Assou-Ekotto in the second half of Spurs’ 2-1 derby win on Sunday, with the France international falling awkwardly in the incident.

Initial scans revealed a fracture, rendering Sagna’s 2011 over. It is a crucial blow for manager Arsene Wenger, having already sold Emmanuel Eboue to Galatasaray.

Sagna’s injury and Eboue’s sale leaves few options for Wenger to use in the right-back role.

“Further detailed investigations and assessments will take place on Monday, during which time Bacary will see ankle specialists and the Arsenal medical team regarding the further management of his injury,” a statement on Arsenal’s website read.

“It is expected that Bacary will be out for approximately three months and a surgical procedure cannot be ruled out at this stage.”

“Everyone at the club wishes Bacary a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him playing again as soon as possible.”

Team-mate Jack Wilshere offered his support Sagna via social networking website Twitter.

“Oh no bad news about @Sagnaofficial wish you a speedy recovery mate! I will be in the gym with you!” Wilshere tweeted.
