Arsenal have extended the contract of French defender Bakari Sagna, who will now be staying in London until 2014.

Initially, Sagna’s contract tied the player to the Gunners until 2012. To avoid an early transfer, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was motivated to extend the deal as soon as possible.

Sagna, now 25 years old, joined Arsenal from AJ Auxerre at the start of the season. In 29 games at Emirates Stadium, he scored one goal.

Recently, the player has been dealing with an ankle injury. This caused him to miss the end of the season and miss out on a possible selection for the European Championships.
