The Daily Mirror is today reporting that Tottenham defender Michael Dawson is a target for Southampton in the January transfer window.
It looks as though the Saints really do need to strengthen at the back as they have already conceded 24 goals in the English Premier League in just eight games.
They have no problems scoring goals, but an inability to defend at the moment is costing Nigel Adkins men a lot and they sit in the bottom three of the league at the moment.
Dawson was of course nearly sold to Queens Park Rangers in the summer window, but a deal never materialised. He has since been left frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities under new manager Andre Villas-Boas.
At 28-years-old, the centre-back knows just how important it is that he is playing week in, week out – if not he may see his best years as a player pass him by.
Dawson has been involved in Capital One Cup and Europa League action this season, but seems desperate to play in the Premier League.
If he is available in January, then a number of clubs may try and land the England international, but Southampton look to be an early front-runner.
