Italian daily newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport has learned that Sampdoria have signed Finnish defender Niklas Moisander on a pre-contract agreement from Ajax.
The 29-year-old had already decided to leave the Amsterdammers when his contract expires in the summer and he was recently linked with a move to AS Roma.
However, it appears that Sampdoria have won the race for his services, with the player in turn signing a three-year contract with the Blucerchiati.
Moisander underwent a medical in Genoa this morning before putting pen to paper on a deal with the Serie A side.
Sampdoria chiefs continued to show ambition having previously recruited Samuel Eto’o and Luis Muriel, with their latest signing expected to help further improve the solid back-line.
Niklas Moisander has featured in 72 Eredivisie matches during his second spell with Ajax, starting 20 league fixtures and five Champions League games this season. He has been capped by Finland 45 times.
