Tuttosport is reporting that Sampdoria have reached an agreement to sign Brazilian midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk.
The lengthy negotiations between the two clubs have finally produced results, with the Ukrainian side accepting the latest €8 million proposal.
As a result, Fred is expected to put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Stadio Marassi shortly, with Sampdoria thus securing the first marquee signing of the transfer window.
Fred only joined Shakhtar Donetsk two years ago, and he wasn’t exactly an undisputed starter in Mircea Lucescu’s side.
However, that did not stop him from playing himself into the first team plans of Brazil boss Carlos Dunga, with the 22-year-old featuring in four international friendlies before starting two matches for the Selecao at the 2015 Copa America.
During the two years in Ukraine, Fred made a total of 45 league appearances, scoring 3 goals, while appearing in 10 Champions League matches.
