Sampdoria renew Mazzarri contract (SN)

Walter Mazzarri will be staying at Italian side Sampdoria until the summer of 2010.

The manager extended his contract on Thursday, ending speculations and aiming to continue a successful performance at the club.

After joining ‘Samp’ at the start of this season, the team began improving its performance and qualified for the UEFA Cup through the Intertoto tournament.

Although the Serie A side were knocked out in the first round, they went on to do surprisingly well in the domestic league.

At the end of the season, Sampdoria occupied the sixth position and secured direct qualification for next year’s UEFA Cup.
