Sampdoria rule out Torreira exit

Serie A high-flyers Sampdoria have made it clear they have no intention of selling star player Lucas Torreira midway through the season.

The Uruguayan has been in excellent form ever since he joined the club from Pescara, and he is now on the radar of quite a few top sides.

But, even though it was reported that Torreira would be joining Atletico Madrid in a €40 million deal, the Blucerchiati are adamant the 21-year-old is going nowhere.

“Clauses? We won’t talk about them,” Sampdoria lawyer Antonio Romei told Telenord.

“There are some complicated, contractual issues (to consider). Torreira is a treasure for Samp and he’ll be with us for the rest of the season.

“He’s grown tremendously, he’s sincere in his approach, he wants to make it and is both competitive and determined.”

Besides Atletico Madrid, the likes of Sevilla, AS Roma, AC Milan and Inter Milan are all believed to be keen on the Uruguayan central midfielder.
