Former Bolton Wanderers defender Jlloyd Samuel has re-signed with Iran Pro League giants Esteghlal until the end of the new season.

The Trinidad and Tobago international hinted last week he was open to a return to England after only six months at Esteghlal, but ultimately decided to extend his stay in Iran by signing a new one-year contract, according to the Tehran Times.

“It’s hard at times because when you come home from football and you’ve got your kids and your wife and everything there, and they’re running around, it helps out, whether things are going good or bad,” he told Sky Sports.

“For myself, I come home to a lonely house, a lonely room, and you start to think sometimes. They want me to go back, but who knows what the future holds.

“I’m back here and I’m free and I’m looking around for a new challenge maybe. But if things are right I’ll go back.”

The 31-year-old, who had played 240 league games with Aston Villa and Bolton, made 18 appearances and scored once for Esteghlal last term.
