Two sides who have their sights set on a play-off spot this season, San Jose will welcome a struggling Houston side to California in the early hours of Thursday.

Starting with the hosts, while many around the Avaya Stadium would have been disappointed to have seen their US Open Cup campaign come to an end last week, San Jose are enduring an MLS resurge. Aside from their defeat against runaway Western Conference leaders LAFC last time out, the Earthquakes are enjoying a four-match unbeaten run in America’s top-flight and it will undoubtedly be their form on home soil most impressing Head Coach Matías Almeyda. Thursday’s hosts are unbeaten in their last six matches in California, a run that stems back to the end of March. More impressive, San Jose have won five of those contests in front of their own supporters.

As for the visitors, while San Jose might be enjoying a resurge in the Western Conference, the same can not be said for a struggling Houston outfit. Shipping four away at Portland last time out, the Dynamo’s have picked up just a pair of victories in their last nine appearances, a run that stems back to the 5th of May. A huge part of their recent issues has been their continued struggles on their travels. Wílmer Cabrera’s side have lost each of their last four matches away from the BBVA Stadium and have failed to register an away goal in over 300 minutes of action outside of Texas.
