San Lorenzo are a big step closer to winning the Argentinian championship after a 1-2 victory at CA Tigre on Wednesday. The match was the first of three games that are to decide which team gets to lift the trophy.
San Lorenzo, Tigre and Boca Juniors all finished with the same amount of points in the regular season, forcing the Argentinian FA to organize a three-way play off for the first time ever.
In tonight’s match, played in Buenos Aires, San Lorenzo opened the score through Barrientos after 18 minutes. Another three minutes later, Bergessio doubled the advantage.
Lazzaro got one back for Tigre in the 76th minute but San Lorenzo held on to their lead to win the match.
While Tigre’s chances of winning the championship are now very slim, San Lorenzo could decide the championship on Sunday when they host Boca Juniors. If that match ends in a draw or a San Lorenzo defeat, Boca Juniors will have the opportunity to win it all when they host Tigre at La Bombonera in the third and final game.
