Alexis Sanchez will be granted permission to leave Chile’s Copa America training camp to travel to Spain and sign for Barcelona.
The Udinese forward is reportedly set to join the Catalan giants in a reported 30 million-euro transfer, but has been held up by his national duty with Chile.
Chile are in preparation for the Copa America, beginning July 1, and are reticent to grant Sanchez a leave of absence.
But given Chile would be liable to cover the cost of the transfer should Sanchez be injured before completing his deal, Chile coach Claudio Borghi sees no choice but to allow the 22-year-old to depart.
“It’s a very complicated matter,” Borghi told television station Chilevision.
“If we don’t allow him to travel, and the sale goes through, we would be accountable for US$45 million in the event of anything happening to him.”
“As soon as the confirmation of his transfer comes through, he will have the authorisation (to travel).”
“If it happens in the middle of the Copa America, obviously (he will) not, but we have time and we know we cannot be responsible for that amount of money.”
“So the ideal situation would be for him to travel and sign when the deal is confirmed.”
Sanchez became hot property in Serie A last term, scoring 12 goals to help Udinese secure a Champions League berth.
The 22-year-old was reportedly being courted by the likes of Manchester United, Inter Milan and Juventus.
