Santos climb above Palmeiras with win

Santos have climbed to the top of the Campeonato Paulista table after a 2-0 win over Noroeste on Friday.

With Palmeiras not in action until Saturday, Adilson Batista’s side took full advantage with a triumph that sent them top by two points.

Ze Eduardo continued his hot streak of form, with the midfielder netting his fourth goal in three games after just nine minutes to give his side the perfect start.

Mid-table outfit Noroeste, who had won just one of seven matches this season, battled hard and managed to kept a normally free-scoring Santos side at bay for an hour after the opener.

But the hosts’ consistent pressure paid off when substitute Felipe Anderson netted a 70th-minute strike.

Santos are next in action with a tough away trip to Corinthians. Noroeste remain on the road, travelling to Sao Bernardo in search of their second win of the season.
