Santos confirm talks for Ochoa

Brazilian giants Santos seem to be closing in on Malaga goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, AS has suggested.

The Mexico star made a switch to La Rosaleda after impressing at the 2014 World Cup, but he has surprisingly struggled for playing time since, with Carlos Kameni in front of him in the pecking order.

Ochoa is now heavily linked with a January exit, with Brazilian side Santos ready to offer him an escape route from Malaga.

Nabil Khaznadar, the favourite to win presidential elections at Estadio Urbano Caldeira, has revealed that he has plans to sign the Mexican shot-stopper.

“We are interested in several players from La Liga and one of them is Ochoa. At Santos we don’t have a good goalkeeper and Ochoa meets all the requirements,” Khaznadar told AS.

“We want a great player and an icon in terms of marketing, and we believe in his potential after what we saw in the World Cup.

“Even so, I can’t promise there has been any agreement. Ochoa is a great name but there is still nothing confirmed.”

Guillermo Ochoa joined Malaga after spending three years with Ajaccio and many were surprised to see him pick los Boquerones when bigger sides were in the running for his signature.

The 29-year-old was Mexico’s star player at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, producing some amazing saves as El Tri reached the Last 16 stage.
