Competition: Brazil Serie A
Market: Sao Paulo win
Odds: 5/6 @ 888sport
With their sights still set on opening the weekend at the top of the Serie A standings, Sao Paulo will welcome Bragantino to an empty Morumbi late on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, Sao Paulo really bounced back from their defeat away at Atlético Mineiro when opening September with an empathic display over the weekend. Now sat just a single point adrift of climbing to top spot, the Whites picked up a thumping 3-1 victory against former champions Fluminense on Sunday and still find the mood around the Morumbi at a real high. While they might have started the New Year in worrying fashion, Fernando Diniz’s men have continued to impress over the past month and have collected 12 points over their last five Serie A appearances. Confident of extending their purple patch in midweek, Sao Paulo should also be boosted by their continued success on home soil. Including that thumping win against Fluminense last weekend, Tricolour are unbeaten in their opening five contests at the Morumbi, winning four of those outings.
As for the visitors, while Sao Paulo might have really impressed over the past month, the same cannot be said for a struggling Bragantino. Despite marking their maiden Serie A campaign in empathic fashion earlier in the summer, the Red Bull’s Brazilian franchise have been unable to find their feet in the top-flight and once again struggled as they were hit with a 2-1 defeat at home against Palmeiras on Sunday. Already firmly at the heart of a relegation scrap and continuing to show some glaring issues at the back, Maurício Barbieri’s men have managed to pick up just a single point over their last four Serie A outings. With their recent issues highlighted by a 3-0 drumming at the hands of Fortaleza in their last matchup on the road, we’re backing another tough night in midweek.
