Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray is on the verge of signing the Brazilian centre-back Maicon from Sao Paulo.
Former FC Porto man arrived in Sao Paolo on loan in 2016 before the Brazilian giants bought him out of his contract with the Portuguese club. Maicon made the total of 58 league appearances for the Brazilian side, during which period he became one of the key players for Edgado Bauza.
Maicon’s fine performances for Sao Paulo have drawn plenty of attention back in Europe but it is Galatasaray who have emerged as front-runners and apparently won the race to sign the highly-rated 28-year-old.
According to the Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte, Galatasaray will pay €7 million for the transfer fee and another million in performance-related bonuses.
Sao Paulo will make a €1 million profit on a player they are yet to pay Porto for. Sao Paulo initially agreed on a €6 million fee in five six-month instalments plus 50% of the economic rights of two of their players.
