Brazil forward Gabriel Barbosa has endured difficult time in European football.
Having joined Inter Milan in 2016 on the back of a highly prolific three-year spell at his boyhood club Santos, the 21-year-old largely failed to live up to the hype.
Following no more than 9 Serie A appearances during which he managed only one goal for Nerazzurri, Gabigol was shipped out on loan to Benfica in 2017.
Problems continued for the Brazilian who contributed one goal and one assist in just five competitive matches for Portuguese giants.
Seeing that Gabigol is not getting regular playing time in Portugal, a return to Brazil has been mooted. His former club Santos are refusing to pay any of Gabigol’s wages for a suggested loan spell but a move to Sao Paulo now appears to be on the cards for the 21-year-old.
Mediaset Premium reports that Sao Paulo are confident they will be able to revive Gabigol’s career and get him back to playing the best brand of football available.
In the meantime, Flamengo are also exploring the possibility to land Gabigol.
