(GSM) – São Paulo gained the upper hand on Brazilian rivals Cruzeiro on Wednesday night with a 2-0, first-leg victory in the first leg of their Copa Libertadores quarter-final.
Despite playing in front of the Cruzeiro crowd in Belo Horizonte, it was the visitors from São Paulo that took the lead in the 23rd minute when Dagoberto’s strike found the net past goalkeeper Fábio.
Both sides pressed while São Paulo used a physical game to disrupt the Cruzeiro attack for the remainder of the first half.
Their tactics paid off on 65 minutes when they went 2-0 in front on a goal by midfielder Hernanes.
The two sides will meet again in the second leg at the Morumbi.
