Sardar Azmoun agrees Lyon move

Sardar Azmoun has reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Olympique Lyon. As things stand, he’s set to join the Ligue 1 side on a four-year deal when his contract with Zenit St. Petersburg expires at the end of this season, according to L’Equipe, though the claim has been confirmed by others as well. There are, however, negotiations going on with Zenit to see if the move can happen in January, in which case the Russian champions would be entitled to compensation.

Once dubbed the ‘Iranian Messi’, the 26-year-old forward left his country in 2013 and joined the second team at Rubin Kazan. He had several separate loan spells with FK Rostov, and finally made a permanent move to Zenit in the summer of 2019. Having signed a three-year contract there, he’s gone on to make a total of 104 appearances in all competitions, scoring 62 and assisting 23 goals. This term, he’s found the opposition net 10 times in 21 matches.
