Serie A side Sassuolo have confirmed they received a big money offer for star forward Gregoire Defrel this winter.
AS Roma and Marseille both attempted to recruit the Frenchman in the January window, but he eventually remained at MAPEI Stadium.
And it was not because Sassuolo did not receive a serious offer for his services, as the Neroverdi moved to reveal they had rejected a €30 million proposal for the 25-year-old.
“We received an offer of €30m this winter, but we decided to refuse it. We have received enough money from the sale of our players this summer to allow us to refuse such an offer,” Sassuolo chief Giovanni Carnevali confessed to Il Corriere dello Sport.
While Defrel was offered an opportunity to return to France by Marseille, it is believed that he prefers a move to AS Roma and a summer switch to Stadio Olimpico may be on the cards.
The Frenchman took over from Domenico Berardi as team’s key forward while the Italy international was on the sidelines and he went on to score 6 goals in 21 Serie A appearances this season.
