Savio is set to leave Girona and join Manchester City at the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano. The two clubs have reached a full agreement, all the necessary documents should be signed in the next couple of days, and the transfer of the 19-year-old winger to the Etihad now appears imminent.
Savio, or Savinho as he is sometimes referred to, was apparently of interest to other clubs in England, as well as in Germany. But once Manchester City entered that race, there was only going to be one winner. Savio actually plays for Girona on loan from Troyes, but all three clubs – Manchester City, Girona and Troyes – are owned by the City Football Group. It’s probably fair to say that this deal won’t do much to repair City’s image in regards to the Financial Fair Play regulations, severely marred by the ongoing process involving 115 alleged offences.
Be that as it may, Savio has made 27 appearances for Girona this season, scoring seven goals and producing as many assists, and given Pep Guardiola’s well-documented ability to develop young talented wingers into world beaters, it will be a huge opportunity for him to make his mark at the highest level.
