Inter right-back Maicon will miss up to three weeks after injuring his right knee in Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to Marseille in the Champions League.

The Brazilian defender did not to return to the pitch after the half-time interval at the Stade Velodrome, which sparked fears that he faced a lengthy lay-off.

However, scans undertaken at the Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo in Pavia on Thursday revealed only a tendon strain in Maicon’s right knee.

Inter have not indicated how long Maicon will be out for, but it has been estimated he will miss between two and three weeks.

The 30-year-old will likely be ruled out for Inter’s upcoming Serie A matches against Napoli, Catania and Chievo, and his involvement in the Champions League round-of-16 return leg against Marseille is in serious doubt.
