The supervisory board of FC Schalke 04 have suspended sporting director Andreas Müller with immediate effect. The board also passed a vote of confidence in head coach Fred Rutten.

Müller had played for the “Royal Blues” between 1988 and 2000 and was part of the team that won the UEFA Cup in 1997. He took over as team manager in 2000 and saw Schalke win back-to-back trophies in the DFB Cup (2001, 2002). In 2006, Müller took over from Rudi Assauer as sporting director.

Board members Josef Schnusenberg and Peter Peters and head coach will take over Müller’s tasks until further notice. Schnusenberg takes care of contracts and finances, Peters in terms of organisation and Rutten in sporting terms.
