Schalke closing in on Sam deal

Schalke are leading the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielderSidney Sam, according to TalkSport.

The Germany star has been in fine form for Sami Hyypia’s side this season with eleven goals in nineteen appearances in all competitions.

He has also won five caps since making his senior international debut in a 4-2 friendly win over Ecuador back in May, and looks set to be part on Joachim Low’s squad for next summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

Liverpool have also been linked with the 25 year old, though Schalke appear to be winning the battle to secure his services after being prepared to meet his bargain £2.1m release clause, with advanced negotiations already taking part between the two Bundesliga sides.

Second place Leverkusen travel to third place Borussia Dortmund tomorrow afternoon aiming to keep pressure on leaders Bayern Munich, and can be backed at a generous price of 5/1 to take all three points.
