Bundesliga outfit Schalke have moved to suggest they are hoping to recruit Serbian defender Matija Nastasic from Manchester City.
The talented footballer is widely tipped to leave the Etihad this winter and he is believed to be on the radar of Serie A’s top sides.
However, it appears that Bundesliga giants Schalke are already in the mix, with the Miners chief Clemens Tonnies having confessed the club’s interest in the Serbia international.
“Yes, we are chasing his (Matija Nastasic’s) signature,” Tonies confessed to Bild.
“Our manager, Roberto di Matteo, has eyed him for his plans. And the player definitely wants to join our club, too.”
Schalke are locked in the battle for Champions League positions in German Bundesliga and having persuaded star player Klaas Jan Huntelaar to sign a new deal, they aim to add few more quality players to their ranks in the winter.
Matija Nastasic has surprisingly fallen out of favour at Manchester City after impressing at the start of his career in England.
The Miners currently sit level on points with fourth-placed Borussia M’gladbach and can be backed at 11/8 to achieve a top 4 finish.
