Schalke forward Raul has been offered a one-year contract extension, according to club president Clemens Tonnies.
The Spaniard has a contract until the end of the season and he is currently pondering his options.
Raul is open to a possibility of staying at Veltins Arena, but he would like a two-year deal, whereas Schalke are only prepared to offer him a one-year extension.
Club president Clemens Tonnies confirms the contract offer is already on the table and he expects to hear from the player’s representatives soon enough.
“We have made him a good offer for one season. It’s now up to him to make a decision. We expect a decision in the upcoming weeks,” Tonnies told Sky.
Raul arrived to Schalke from Real Madrid in July 2010 and has so far scored 24 goals in 57 Bundesliga appearances.
He has become a real fans’ favourite at Veltins Arena, in spite of the fact he is often criticized by pundits for under-par performances in big matches.
Raul has scored 11 goals in 23 Bundesliga games this season, while adding just one more in seven Europa League matches.
