Schalke have moved to deny speculations linking star forward Klaas Jan Huntelaar with a summer exit from Veltins Arena.
The Dutchman helped the team achieve a third-place finish in Bundesliga by scoring 29 goals in 32 games, more than any other player in Germany’s top flight.
He has since seen his name linked with a number of high-profile clubs, but Schalke chiefs are doing their best to persuade the player into signing a new deal at Veltins Arena.
Huntelaar has requested several high-profile signings in order to stay, but as the club have yet to lure a world-class player to their ranks, the player was recently linked with a move to Malaga.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt is aware of the rumours, but he believes the Dutch international will choose to remain at Veltins Arena.
“Huntelaar does have a €20 million buyout clause, and the rich club can afford it,” Heldt said to Bild.
“But, Klaas Jan has always stressed that he wants to be a champions. This he can be only with Real or Barcelona in Spain.
“I do not think he wants to go there. What would he do there? Since nothing more than the weather is better.”
The highly rated forward is waiting for the European Championship to end before he makes a decision on his future.
