Bundesliga outfit Schalke have no plans to make a move on Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri, the Miners have revealed.
The Veltins Arena outfit were one of the sides linked with a January bid for the wantaway midfielder, but it appears there is no truth in the rumours.
While Schalke officials obviously value the Switzerland international highly, they have no need to sign another player of his calibre at the moment.
“This is a great player, but we are well equipped on the wing positions,” sporting director Horst Heldt explained to Sport Bild.
The Miners are a bit short of options up front at the moment, but given that star player Julian Draxler should return into action in January, signing another player in his position is out of the question.
Meanwhile, a number of Europe’s top sides are showing interest in Shaqiri and they could make concrete moves in the winter, especially considering that the player has made it clear he is looking to leave the Bavarians in search of first team football.
