Schalke chiefs are preparing a mega money offer for star striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar, Bild understands.
The Dutch forward has been absolutely brilliant this season, and with 37 goals in 36 competitive matches he holds the third place in Europe behind Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
While everybody at the club is delighted with the player’s recent performances, the club chiefs are not too happy that Huntelaar is scoring goals for fun as that means they will struggle to keep him at Veltins Arena.
The 28-year-old has a contract until June 2013 with Schalke, but the club officials are afraid one of the interested clubs could match the player’s €20 million release clause.
That is why they want the player to extend his contract before the start of European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.
According to Bild, Schalke are prepared to offer Huntelaar a three-year extension worth €7 million per season, and it remains to be seen whether that will prove enough to keep the prolific striker at Veltins Arena.
