Schalke: Draxler, Farfan going nowhere

Julian Draxler and Jefferson Farfan will both be at Schalke next season, according to the club’s general manager Horst Heldt.

Highly-rated midfielder Draxler recently became the youngest player to have featured in 100 games for the Bundesliga club, and has already earned six senior Germany caps at the age of just 19.

His performances since breaking through at the Veltins-Arena have reportedly seen him attract interest from a number of top European clubs, but Heldt says the youngster is keen to stay where he is.

“If there are further transfer enquiries for Julian Draxler, I will be fair to those clubs and reject them in a polite way,” he told Bild.

“I have been a player myself but I have never been confronted with the money Draxler has during these transfer discussions. If I was him, to be honest, I would have thought things over. But he has made the right choice. It is great that he is staying at Schalke.

“It is not guaranteed that he will be on the move next summer, but we are experienced enough to know that there will be further enquiries in the years to come.”

Heldt was similarly bullish about the future of Farfan, who scored six goals and provided seven assists in 27 German top-flight appearances last term.

“We are continuously receiving transfer enquiries for Jefferson Farfan, but we do not mind,” he added.

“We have no intention of selling Jeff and he has no clause to get out of his current deal.”

Schalke secured a place in the UEFA Champions League play-off round as they finished fourth int he Bundesliga in 2012-13.
