Bundesliga outfit Schalke are hot on the trail of AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong, Sport Bild can reveal.
The Miners have secured another windfall having qualified for the Champions League knockout stages, where they have been pitted against Real Madrid, and they are now looking for winter reinforcements.
According to Sport Bild, Schalke have set their sights on AC Milan star Nigel de Jong, whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
The Miners have already established the first contact and they will try to persuade the Dutch midfielder to move to Veltins Arena.
Should they manage to complete a deal, Schalke would be able to use de Jong in the Champions League, with AC Milan having not competed in Europe this season.
The Rossoneri are still hoping the Netherlands international will extend at San Siro, but the contract talks are clearly not going according to plan at the moment.
