Schalke join race for Choupo-Moting

Schalke are the latest side to have joined the chase for Mainz forward Jean-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, reports Bild.

The Cameroon international has already decided to leave his current employers when his contract expires in June, but he plans to announce the new club after the 2014 World Cup, where the Indomitable Lions are 4/1 shot to qualify from Group A.

AS Roma, Inter Milan and Borussia M’gladbach have already shown interest in the highly rated footballer, while Bild understands Schalke are keen as well.

The Miners could stay without Julian Draxler this summer and they believe the Cameroon forward would be a good replacement.

Choupo-Moting joined Mainz from Hamburg SV three years ago and he went on to score 20 goals in 74 Bundesliga outings.

He is proving to be a very important player for the national team, having scored in all three warm-up games ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
