(GSM) – Schalke 04 jumped to the top spot in the German Bundesliga following a 0-2 win at Bayer Leverkusen.
As Bayern Munich suffered a 1-2 defeat by Stuttgart earlier on Saturday, the road was paved for Schalke to take advantage and surpass the Bavarians for first place.
Just ten minutes had passed at the BayArena when Kevin Kuranyi put the visiting side ahead, and the international striker went on to make it 0-2 in the 27th minute.
In the standings, Schalke are now two points ahead of Bayern. Leverkusen follow at another three points.
On April 3, Schalke host Bayern in Gelsenkirchen in a match that may well decide this year’s German championship.
