(GSM) – Schalke 04’s bid for their maiden Bundesliga title since 1958 could depend on the performance of their Westphalian rivals Borussia Monchengladbach against Bayern Munchen on Saturday.
Bayern currently lead the the Royal Blues currently by two points with three games of the season remaining.
Since Bayern end the campaign with what on paper at least look like relatively easy games against Bochum and Hertha Berlin, Schalke know that this weekend could be their last chance of moving back to the top, especially since their title rivals may well have other things on their mind.
Bayern’s trip to Gladbach comes between their Champions League semi-final against Olympique Lyon, which is bound to be a distraction.
”Since they are so close to the Champions League final, that will take some of their concentration away from the Bundesliga,” said Schalke manager Felix Magath. I expect them not to win in Gladbach. That is not as important to them as the Champions League semi-final. We have a great chance of becoming champions.”
While Bayern are in Gladbach, Schalke travel to Hertha Berlin, whose relegation to the second division could be confirmed this weekend.
