Schalke president Clemens Tonnies believes star player Raul will sign a new deal at Veltins Arena.
The veteran forward signed a two-year deal with the Bundesliga outfit when he arrived to Real Madrid and his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
The club chiefs are keen to hold on to their star player after Raul largely impressed during his stay in Gelsenkirchen.
The Spanish striker recently revealed his desire to sign a new deal with Schalke and the club president is optimistic that Raul will stay on for at least another season.
“All of the signals coming from Raul in recent days have been extremely positive,” Tonnies told Bild.
“He has already dropped anchor in Schalke and he identifies himself with the club and the fans. He really feels happy here.”
According to Bild, the two parties are close to reaching an agreement, and Raul’s future should be sorted by the end of January.
Schalke officials have offered the Spaniard a new one-year deal, which is something that the player could accept, but only if the contract contains an option to extend until June 2014.
Raul has been in scintillating form this season, scoring 10 goals in 17 Bundesliga appearances.
