Bundesliga outfit Schalke have moved to announce that they have completed the signing of Mainz midfielder Johannes Geis.
The Miners reportedly splashed out around €10 million on the Germany Under21 star, who in turn signed a deal until June 2019 at Veltins Arena.
Geis was believed to be close to joining Borussia Dortmund, but their bitter rivals eventually won the chase for the youngster’s signature.
The 21-year-old began his career at Greuther Furth, making 17 league appearances for the club before joining Mainz two years ago.
Geis immediately developed into an important player for his new side, going on to make 67 Bundesliga appearance, scoring 5 goals in the process.
The talented footballer is currently representing Germany at the Under21 European Championship in Czech Republic and will join his new club after the tournament comes to an end.
Geis has become Schalke’s first major signing of the summer transfer window, but more big name players are expected to follow.
