Bundesliga side Schalke have announced the release of former Germany international Christian Pander.
The left-back was regarded as one of the best defenders in Bundesliga just few years ago, but numerous injuries prevented him from realizing his full potential.
Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt has revealed that everybody at the club is sad that Pander is leaving Gelsenkirchen.
“Christian Pander is a player with many particular qualities, which he proved time and again for Schalke,” Heldt told the club’s official website.
“Unfortunately, he was unable to play many games in recent seasons due to injury problems, which kept returning.
“It’s with a heavy heart. We wish Christian all the best for the future and hope to see him again in the Bundesliga in the near future.”
The former Germany international has already received several offers and he is reportedly very close to making a switch to Hannover.
