German side Schalke 04 are close to signing Real Madrid star Raul Gonzalez. Royal Blues manager Felix Magath has revealed to German newspaper Bild that the club were in negotiations to bring Raul to the Veltins Arena.
Raul, 33, has also attracted attention from the MLS and the English Premier League, with the New York Red Bulls and Blackburn Rovers both having expressed interest in the player.
Raul has been at Real Madrid since 1992, and has scored a whopping 228 league goals for Los Merengues in eighteen years at the Bernabeu. He is contracted to Real till 2011.
It is being reported that German defender Christophe Metzelder, who left Real for Schalke earlier this year, is helping the Royal Blues in their quest to land Raul.
Schalke are also guaranteed Champions League Football in the forthcoming season after finishing second in the Bundesliga last season.
