German media outlet Bild has learned that Schalke are set to complete the signing of Brazilian midfielder Renato Augusto from Corinthians.
The same source had earlier suggested that the Miners had selected the former Bayer Leverkusen footballer as a replacement for Julian Draxler, but his current employers didn’t seem too keen on letting him leave.
However, Bild has now learned that Schalke have matched an €8 million release clause in the player’s contract, thus virtually wrapping up the deal.
His former club Bayer Leverkusen will also secure a hefty payout seeing as they are entitled to 40% of the transfer fee.
Meanwhile, Renato Augusto will return to German Bundesliga some three years after leaving die Werkself for Corinthians, whom he recently helped lift the league trophy.
The 27 year old had previously spent several successful years at Bay Arena, making 101 league appearances and scoring 9 goals in the process.
