Schalke sign Stuttgart reject

Schalke 04 have announced the signing of free agent Ciprian Marica on their official website.

The Romanian striker, who was recently released from his contract at Stuttgart, didn’t need a lot of time to find a new club and has now signed a two-year deal with Schalke.

“Ciprian fits our footballing requirements,” said general manager Horst Heldt, the man who signed the striker for VfB Stuttgart from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2007.

“He also knows the Bundesliga, speaks several languages and comes on a free transfer.

“We’re pleased the transfer has gone through because a number of other big European clubs were very interested in signing him.”

Marica has had mixed success during his time at Stuttgart, having scored 19 goals and made 17 assists in 93 Bundesliga games.
