Schalke 04 announced Monday they will be without captain Marcelo Bordon this weekend after the Brazilian broke his hand during last Saturday’s win over Werder Bremen.

Bordon, 33, had surgery in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday night to insert four screws into his left hand after damaging it during the 1-0 win over Bremen and will miss Saturday’s match at Bochum.

“It looks like he will miss Saturday’s game,” said Schalke coach Fred Rutten.

In his absence, Serbia’s Mladen Krstajic will take his place.

Schalke 04 are eighth in the Bundesliga table and nine points off leaders Hoffenheim.
