Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos is closely followed by Zenit, according to Russian newspaper Izvestia.
It is no secret the Russian club are hoping to reinforce the back line in the summer, with the Greek defender one of the players they are looking at.
Having just signed a new deal at Veltins Arena, the 21-year-old is valued at €20 million, and Zenit seem ready to meet the asking price.
The Russians had a €15 million bid for the player rejected last summer, but they appear to be set to return for the highly rated stopper.
Papadopoulos’ agent has moved to confirm reports that his client has been contacted by Zenit in the past.
“At the moment, Kyriakos is recovering from a knee injury. He likes to play in Germany, he is happy,” agent Paul Koutsoliakos said to Izvestia.
“However, we had contacts with Zenit. Whether the transfer is possible, time will tell. For starters, the clubs must agree.”
Kyriakos Papadopoulos has missed the big part of the current season through injury, but he is still held in high regard by top European clubs.
The 21-year-old already has a wealth of experience and his rock-solid displays in the Champions League and Bundesliga did not go unnoticed.
