Sport Bild understands that Bundesliga outfit Schalke are highly unlikely to cash in on star player Leon Goretzka in the winter.
The Miners have already come to terms with losing their key man as his contract is due to expire in June, but a winter sale can now be ruled out.
And even if Schalke wanted to sell in January, they wouldn’t get nearly as much as they hoped for due to a number of clauses.
Namely, while the player’s former club VfL Bochum are entitled to 20% of the future transfer fee, so are the player and his agent, who would share the 20% for any amount that exceeds €2.5 million.
And with Schalke also required to pay tax on any transfer, it is easy to understand why they prefer to keep hold of Leon Goretzka until the end of the season.
The attacking midfielder has become one of Bundesliga’s most sought-after footballers, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona reportedly on his trail.
