Bayern Munich coach Jupp Heynckes has ended speculation about Bastian Schweinsteiger’s future, declaring the midfielder is not for sale.
German international Schweinsteiger has been linked with a move to Milan, but Heynecks says he has no intention of allowing the 26-year-old to leave the club.
“Bastian Schweinsteiger is held in high regard at this club,” Heynckes said. “A year ago he was playing on the same level as players such as Xavi and Andres Iniesta.”
“He is not for sale.”
Heynckes also weighed in on Arturo Vidal’s recent transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Juventus.
After allegedly committing to join Bayern, Vidal opted instead to move to Italy, instigating a war of words between the Bundesliga and Serie A giants.
Although he was displeased by the Chilean’s change of heart, Heynckes wished the player well.
“I am absolutely disappointed because Arturo told me he wanted to join me at Bayern Munich,” he said.
“I am, however, understanding of his situation and his desire to take on the challenge that is ahead of him at Juventus. They are a top club in Europe.”
