According to a report in the Sun, new Chelsea boss Luiz Scolari has spoken with Barcelona playmaker Ronaldinho, in the past few days and wants him to be part of his Stamford Bridge revolution.
Scolari has been on holiday in Portugal but has had phone conversations with the 28 year old, Brazilian international who insists he will be fit for the new season.
The two-time Fifa World Player of the Year, was plagued by injury and personal problems which saw him miss most of last term for Barca and has been told that he is not part of the new coach’s plan for Barca come next season.
Scolari will arrive in London this weekend to begin work and tell Roman Abramovich that Ronaldinho is not a spent force.
The two Brazilians combined to help their country win the World Cup in 2002 and Scolari thinks he can still get the best from the star.
The Catalans want £25million for him but Scolari believes £15m is a more accurate valuation. Reports also suggest that the player will not be offered an astronomical salary and should be paid no more than the £130,000 per week that John Terry earns.
Manchester City who were heavily linked with him, have offered around £1m a year more than that figure. But Scolari is confident he can persuade the Brazilian star to join him and compete for the biggest prizes in the game.
