Luiz Felipe Scolari has played down rumours that he will take over Mark Hughes as Manchester City boss before the end of the season, according to The Guardian.
Scolari is already being linked with several top jobs since being axed as Chelsea boss recently and is still living in England for the time being.
But Acaz Fellegger, Scolari’s spokesman insists no contact has been made with anyone.
“There is no contact with Manchester City,” he said in the Guardian. “Scolari has no intention of taking on another job during this season. He has no intention of doing anything before the end of May or June.”
Back in Brazil there was popular support for Scolari to be reinstated as manager of the Brazilian national side, though Fellegger quashed rumours by stating that the former Portugal manager will stay in Europe.
Fellegger said: “Only after June will he decide his future. If he goes to work in another country in Europe he will move there. If he stays in England he will obviously stay there.”
Meanwhile, Sky Sports reports that Chelsea star Michael Ballack has denied rumours that he forced Scolari out of the club along with several other Chelsea players.
Reports suggest that Ballack, along with the likes of Petr Cech and Didier Drogba persuaded manager Roman Abramovich to give the Brazilian manager the axe after meeting with the billionare.ÂÂ
“I couldn’t believe this,” Ballack said. “I was surprised when I heard about it in Germany as I always had a lot of good words about Scolari.
“This is not true. Meetings are normal in a club. If people speak with each other, even if you don’t have the success you want, it has happened before. It’s not just this week. It happened with other coaches.”
“It’s normal Abramovich comes in the dressing-room and speaks with players. It’s not easy, not nice to sack somebody. This was in the papers, but is definitely not true.”
“There is no backing or basis for this. I had a good relationship with every coach. I never said this. It’s speculation which appears in newspapers. I was disappointed as I couldn’t react because I was away.”
