Scotland boss George Burley handed Englishman Danny Fox a shock international call-up after naming an experimental 22-man squad for the October 10 Kirin Challenge Cup clash against Japan.

The Cheshire-born Celtic full-back qualifies through his Scottish grandparents and is just one of a handful of new faces that will travel for the match in Yokohama.

Burley also called up uncapped English-based trio Robert Snodgrass of Leeds United, Ross Wallace of Preston and West Brom youngster Graham Dorrans.

Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adams earned a recall after winning the last of his two caps in 2007, while in-form Hibs striker Derek Riordan returns to the squad for the first time in over four years.

Making way for the new additions are the likes of 39-year-old Rangers defender David Weir, veteran Burnely midfielder Graham Alexander, injured Birmingham striker James McFadden and crocked Cardiff forward Ross McCormack.

Also included is Celtic midfielder Scott Brown, despite pleas from his club boss Tony Mowbray that he needs rest after an injury-hit start to the campaign.

Goalkeepers: Craig Gordon (Sunderland/ENG), David Marshall (Cardiff City), Jamie Langfield (Aberdeen)

Defenders: Darren Barr (Falkirk), Stephen McManus (Celtic), Christophe Berra (Wolves/ENG), Gary Caldwell (Celtic), Danny Fox (Celtic) Alan Hutton (Tottenham/ENG), Steven Whittaker (Rangers)

Midfielders: Charlie Adam (Blackpoo/ENG), Scott Brown (Celtic), Darren Fletcher (Man Utd/ENG), Graham Dorrans(West Brom/ENG), Robert Snodgrass (Leeds/ENG), Kevin Thomson (Rangers), Ross Wallace (Preston/ENG), Shaun Maloney (Celtic)

Forwards: Steven Fletcher (Burnley/ENG), Garry O’Connor(Birmingham City/ENG), Steven Naismith (Rangers), Derek Riordan (Hibernian)
