Kilmarnock stunned Scottish Premier League leaders Rangers with a 1-0 victory at Rugby Park on Sunday.

Kenny Shiels’ men made the most of some lax Rangers defence after a partially cleared corner, and when the ball was put back into the danger area by James Fowler, Manuel Pascali was unmarked to flick on his header past goalkeeper Allan McGregor on 80 minutes.

There was a hint of offside about the goal, but replays suggested Rangers loan signing Sone Aluko played Pascali onside when coming off the goal-line after the corner.

It was the Italian Pascali’s second goal in as many games, helping Kilmarnock break a run of nine straight defeats to Rangers in all competitions.

The result was Rangers’ first loss of 2011 and also ended their run of 14 consecutive away wins in the SPL, leaving Ally McCoist’s men just four points clear of title threats Celtic – who thrashed St Mirren 5-0 on Saturday.

Kilmarnock climbed into seventh spot in the table with 19 points with the win.
